Nicholas Pocock graduated in medicine from the University of Sydney in 1978 and has worked since then in Sydney. In 1987 he became a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Physicians and in 1989 gained his Doctorate in Medicine. He is currently a Senior Staff Specialist in the Department of Nuclear Medicine at St Vincents Hospital, Darlinghurst. Dr Pocock has served on the council of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Physicians in Nuclear Medicine and was instrumental in the establishment of joint accreditation guidelines in bone densitometry for the RACR, the ANZAPNM and the ANZBMS. Dr Pocock's research interests include the epidemiology of osteoporosis and diagnostic measurements used in osteoporosis. He is also very interested in issues of patient education and measures to decrease the impact of osteoporosis on society.
Dr Pocock's work has resulted in membership of many working parties and clinical advisory groups to State and national medical and government bodies, and to national and international medical publications. He has published widely on osteoporosis and bone densitometry. Dr Pocock is the Australian and New Zealand Association of Physicians in Nuclear Medicine's principal spokesperson on osteoporosis.
