Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cardiovascular Health

Cardiovascular disease claimed more than 47,000 lives and affected more than 3.5 million Australians in 2004, but it is Indigenous Australians who carry the heaviest burden of illness and death from cardiovascular disease. After adjusting for age, Indigenous Australians are 1.5 times as likely to die after a major coronary event than other Australians.
